Great Customer service: Little Twig

Thursday, February 26, 2009 15
Last month, I won a Little Twig Bath Time Basics gift set from a blog giveaway. The blog owner had contacted me with a win notification which I responded to right away with my shipping information. I later received a email from her that the email I sent was blank. She asked me to resend it, which I did. I didn't think much more of it.

After not receiving it , I contacted the sponsor to find out if it had been shipped. There seemed to be a mix up and my name was never submitted to the company as the winner.

Now before any of you jump to conclusions, I am not blaming the blog owner. I assume there was a problem with one of our email providers. (Since the first email I sent was blank maybe the second one never reached her).

I sent the company a copy of the email that I had originally sent to the blog owner. They were very pleasant and I received my bath set yesterday, along with a very nice note from Kaliko in their customer service department. I believe this is a example of a company that goes above and beyond. In all reality, they didn't have to fulfill my win. After all they never even knew I won.

I will update this post after my family has a chance to try out the products with a full review.

7 grocery tips to help you save time or money

1. Create a checklist of what you have available to you.
Do this by making a list of items you have on hand and use regularly.
When you use a item check it off. This will cut time when making your shopping list and save you from having to run back to the store. If you see something from your checklist on sale don't wait to get it until you do your grocery shopping stock up then.
2.Plan out a weekly menu including snacks and beverages. Then compare to your checklist and plan accordingly.
3.Now it's time to sit down and prepare your list and create your budget.(when you go shopping if you stick to your list you shouldn't exceed your budget. The only exception should be if you find one of your staple items at a really good bargain because stocking up now will save you money later.
4.Go online and check out your local ads and compare prices of the items on your list.Plan your shopping ahead of time. Write down next to each item which store has it cheaper and buy the item from that store.(also consider mileage it may not be smart to drive to another store if your only going to save some change)
5.NEVER go shopping on a empty stomach. When your hungry you tend to stray from your list and buy impulse items that look good at the time.
6.Buy store brands they are often as good as the name brand without the name brand pricing.
7. Check to see if your store has a store savings card. Make sure you sign up. This will save you lots of money in the long run. Since a lot of stores have special savings for club members only.

This concludes this weeks installment of Frugal Friday. As always if you have anything to add you are welcomed to leave a comment below!

(24) "Cheap Date" Ideas

Friday, February 13, 2009 0
I'm here to tell you being a cheap date is not necessarily a bad thing as others may suggest. With the economy struggling the way it is right now, there is no shame in being frugal. Think about it.. going out to a dinner and a movie will run you around $100.00. I have came up with 24 cheap date ideas( many are free or next to free) that can save you a couple bucks.

But before we are going to get into that. I want to show you how we save for our "date nights" it's a pretty basic concept but who knows maybe you will find it useful. We got tired of not being able to afford a night out. So we started a entertainment bank to save all our loose change. The money that goes into it only comes out when we want a night out.

What I do is take a old coffee can and cut a slit in the lid but you can use a milk jug, mason jar, water jug etc. I like the coffee can because it has a lid that I can write on and I'll write a message on it telling me what is is that I am saving for (EX..Going to see this movie or dinner at such and such or Date night 1-16-09). Labeling the bank gives us something to look forward to and we are more apt to remember to donate to it + it keeps us from borrowing from the jar by reminding us what it is for. Just remember to keep it in a place where you will see it. Ours is by the front door, that way when we come in we can just dump our change into it and are less likely to forget.

Now that we covered saving for a date let's talk about affordable babysitting. One way to get affordable babysitting is by starting a babysitting co-op. We are fortunate and have a family that we are very close to that we swap baby sitting duties with. Taking turns will save both families a lot of money. Just make sure that you plan in advance to save either family from any inconvenience.

If you have read this far I apologize for turning this simple topic into a novel. I'm just trying to cover all the bases. Now has I promised earlier here is the list categorized to make it a little easier ..

A NIGHT IN

1. Movie nights: rent a couple movies,Grab some of your honey's favorite movie theater goodies(Sour patch kids, Raisinets,Milk duds etc.) Pop some popcorn and enjoy the show. If you have a Redbox in your area you can rent a movie for a dollar or check online to get free Redbox codes.
2. Play a board game from the past. Maybe one of your favorite games growing up. This is something that you could include your kids in as well.
3. Have a indoor picnic: Spread out a blanket and turn off the phone and T.V etc. and just enjoy some time together without all the modern distractions.

FUN DATES

1. Playground date: Pack a picnic lunch and head to your local park and enjoy a picnic lunch on the jungle gym or under the slide. While your there don't forget to take advantage of all the equipment. Taking a few trips down a slide can still be fun no matter how old you are.
2. Take a trip to the zoo. This one can get a little expensive else you bring your own snacks and drinks.
3. Check around and call your local museums a lot of times they will have special discount day's. If you have a Hands on type museum in your area they can be real fun.
4. Take a bike ride together stopping to get a icecream cone.
5. In the winter go sledding or tobogganing then afterwords you can warm up together and enjoy some hot chocolate and a cozy blanket.

Romantic
Sexy

1. Perform a sexy striptease for your partner.
2. Take a candlelight bath together or a nice steamy shower
3. Read a steaming hot novel to each other.
4. Use your imagination for other ideas. This is a family oriented site after all:)

Misc.

1. Volunteer together at a food bank, soup kitchen, animal shelter etc.
2. Visit a winery that has wine tasting.
3. In the fall make a visit to a apple orchard, take a hayride, pick some apples. When you get home you can make a pie together.
4. Check to see if there is any drive-ins in your area. The admission is cheaper and you can bring in your own snacks and beverages to save even more money. To check if there is a drive-in in your area click here.

That concludes the first installment in my Frugal Friday series. Please feel free to add your own opinions and ideas below.

COUNTRY BOB'S ALL PURPOSE SAUCE
REVIEW & GIVEAWAY !!!

A couple weeks back I was contacted by Al Malekovic from Country Bobs. He offered me a chance to review their all purpose sauce. After hearing many great reviews from fellow bloggers
I decided it was worth a shot. Honestly I was a bit skeptical that it was as good as everyone
was saying. But let me admit now that I was WRONG!

It just so happened that I was thawing out some steaks for dinner when my package from Country Bob's arrived. I figured what better time to try it and sprinkled a little bit of sauce on both sides of the meat. Then cooked it as I normally would. The results were fantastic ! (definitely a blessing in my house of picky eaters)

It's not like other sauces that I have tried. It is thicker than A-1 but thinner than a bbq sauce.
It has this sweet flavor with just enough spice to kick it up a bit. I can not pinpoint exactly what it is but there is something special about that sets it apart from the rest.

The fine folks over at Country Bob's has generously allowed me to give away 2 bottles of their all purpose sauce to 2 lucky winners!

To enter all you need to do is leave me a comment on this post by
Thurs. Feb 12th 11.59 p.m est.

I will draw a winner that night and contact you by email and also post the winner here.

If your looking for a extra chance to win I'll give you one extra entry if you became a follower of my blog. (I really want some friends) Consider it a bribe. I will also give you extra entries if you do any of the following below.

1. Send me your first born child.
2. Run around a crowded mall doing the chicken dance while shouting the name of my blog.
3. If you write the name of my blog in permanent marker on your forehead.

But no really... I just want some friends so please follow me and get a extra entry if you do !

And the winners are Marrissa and jinxy and me !!! I have sent you both emails and will give you until Sunday to respond.

A little bit about me...

Hi There, Welcome to my blog!

Let me introduce myself, I'm Angela a *cough (30 yr old) cough*, mother of two rambunctious boys L.C (9 ) and D (11). We are city folk adjusting to life on the farm in rural Michigan, but have dreams of one day living in Aruba on the Beach.( That may never happen, but it never hurts to dream.)

I consider myself pretty diverse, I love everything from fashion to professional wrestling, in my spare time you may find me on Facebook, playing World of Warcraft or doing what I do best... shopping!   I have always loved trying new things, and telling all my friends. So when I discovered blogging, it was only natural that I would jump right in. I had some bumps along the way, and ended up taking a break... but now I'm back better than ever and am here to stay.

If you'd like to know more about me, do not hesitate to ask.
